There's method dressing when you're trying to channel your film or TV character, and then there's method dressing when you're simply trying to have some fun.
Charli XCX seemed to be doing the latter when she was spotted on the streets of New York City this afternoon wearing what looked like a fashion girl's take on a pirate uniform. It was part dark academia, part cottagecore, all brat.
While out in the East Village, the "Guess" singer looked particularly swashbuckling in a frilly white top (or "puffy shirt," as some might say) that had billowing poet sleeves and accordion-pleated lapels, with a wide brown corset belt cinching the middle.
The English singer continued the pirate vibes down low, where she had on sheer black tights tucked into knee-high ruched leather boots -- not a particularly sensible set for walking the plank, but certainly the runway.
To match her inky footwear, Charli carried a black top-handle bag and rocked a pair of black sunglasses -- all accessories that coordinated well with her raven-esque locks. Finally, she added a sandy plaid miniskirt that had a deconstructed appearance and brought even more motion to her already-flowy look.
Following the close of her stadium-packing Sweat Tour, it seems Charli XCX is now filling her time by making the Big Apple streets her catwalk. In the past few days alone, she's stepped out in everything from a super-spy jumpsuit from Saint Laurent to a fuzzy fur coat that screamed "mob wife." She's so Julia.
