'Legally Blonde' Prequel Series Sets Open Casting Call for Young Elle Woods

No objections here. The "Legally Blonde" prequel series at Amazon Prime Video is putting out an open casting call for the series' lead role.

Reese Witherspoon made the announcement on her Instagram on Wednesday. "Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON!" Witherspoon wrote in the post. "With our friends @primevideo we're making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio... I'm SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone's favorite Gemini vegetarian!"

The prequel was officially ordered at Prime Video back in May. Currently titled "Elle," the logline for the series states that it "follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first 'Legally Blonde' film."

The series hails from creator Laura Kittrell, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Witherspoon executive produces along with Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt will also executive produce. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.

Witherspoon starred as Elle Woods in the two "Legally Blonde" films. The first film was based on the book of the same name by Amanda Brown. Released in 2001, the film became a smash hit, grossing over $140 million at the global box office. The sequel was released in 2003, followed by the straight to video film "Legally Blondes" in 2009, with Witherspoon producing the latter rather than starring. A musical adaptation debuted on Broadway in 2007.
