APPLING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 31-year-old woman is facing a murder charge in Columbia County after the death of a child, according to officials.

A spokesperson with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office says the child died several months ago on Jordon Drive in Appling.

Lab results showed the child had drugs in their system, officials say.

Mitra Chiquia Ellzey was arrested on Tuesday, according to inmate bookings.

The detention center says a bond was not set.

The relationship between Ellzey and the child is unknown at this time.
