FEMA phone lines operational again after brief outage

(WSPA) - People attempting to call FEMA to apply for or ask questions about disaster relief should once again be able to do so.

Early Tuesday morning, callers reported an issue when dialing 1-800-621-3362, the FEMA disaster assistance line, in which they would get a message about long wait times, then the call would disconnect.

Once they were made aware of the issue, FEMA technical professionals began working to fix the problem, and as of 10:30 a.m., the phone line was again fully operational.

"Wait times may continue to be longer due to widespread disaster activity," the spokesperson said in an email.

People searching for disaster assistance can also visit one of multiple disaster recovery centers around the state to get in-person assistance.

A list of in-person centers can be found here. You can also click here and enter your zip code to find a center closest to you.

FEMA is working with state officials to open more centers.
