'Big Sh**ger', drug-dealing OAP and citronella candle gang among 21 criminals jailed

A thug who threw a brick at a police officer's head, a teenager who was caught with a gun after a robbery in Sefton Park and a gang who smuggled drugs inside citronella candles were among the Merseyside criminals jailed this week. Also locked up was a pensioner who sold "10 out of 10" cocaine.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court heard that two brothers formed part of a multi-million-pound smuggling plot in which illicit goods were hidden within a shipment of pasta. Here are the faces of 21 defendants from across our region who were imprisoned over the past seven days.

A predator booked a hotel to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex. Ciaran Clark was caught in the act by an undercover officer pretending to be the in an online chatroom.

The 46-year-old pleaded guilty guilty to arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. He was jailed for 10 years.

A man has been jailed after what police found on him during a stop search. Mark Evans was found to be in possession of 65 wraps of crack cocaine and 39 wraps of heroin when police stopped him on Eastbank Street in Southport.

The 37-year-old was convicted of possession of crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply. He was sentenced to five years and seven months.

A "despicable" man who sexually assaulted a girl under 13 has been jailed for five years. John Thompson was convicted of three offences of sexual assault against a child under 13 and one of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Two brothers plotted to import and supply millions of pounds of drugs and illegal cigarettes. Peter Wilson used encrypted communications platform EncroChat to smuggle cocaine into the UK from the Netherlands, with his younger brother Paul also becoming embroiled within the scheme while utilising the handle "Big Sh**ger".

The former's wife now says her husband has "let her down again" as he faces the prospect of being sent back to prison for a lengthy period. A third man, Andrew Brennan, meanwhile sourced more than £5million of illicit tobacco products, including "very good copies" of Mayfair and Chesterfield cigarettes from Greece and Belgium.

Brennan admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and fraudulently evading the prohibition on tobacco. Appearing via video link to HMP Altcourse, he was jailed for eight years.

Peter Wilson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to fraudulently evade the prohibition on the importation of cocaine, conspiracy to supply cocaine and amphetamine and fraudulently evading the prohibition on tobacco. Also appearing remotely from HMP Liverpool, he was handed 10 years and eight months.

Paul Wilson admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and ecstasy and fraudulently evading the prohibition on tobacco. Similarly appearing on the video link from Walton prison, he received nine years

A thug attacked his girlfriend with a knife while she was cradling their three-year-old daughter. Neale White flew into a rage when his then partner poured the dregs of his drink down the sink, holding the weapon to her throat after warning her: "You're going to die."

The appalling incident also saw him barricade his victim and the young child inside a bedroom and smear his blood over them. The dad-of-three subsequently attempted to stab a police dog after the woman and her daughter managed to escape the terrifying ordeal.

White admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, making threats to kill, assaulting an emergency services worker and threatening to destroy property. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey hooded top, he nodded as he was jailed for four years and handed a 10-year restraining order.

A dealer who hid behind the EncroChat handle "Busy Sage" had £48,000 of drug money stashed under a mattress in his bedroom. Anthony Judge his £48,000 in cash underneath a mattress in the bedroom of his plush flat near the Mersey and the Herculaneum "dockers' steps".

The 51-year-old was subsequently found to be involved in the supply of 34kg of cocaine, 42.5kg of heroin and 50kg of ketamine, as well as conspiring to import 500kg of ketamine. He was jailed for 16 years.

A man will spend seven years behind bars for dealing class A drugs. Daniel Rea was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine after he was linked to the the "Jay Jay" county line, which involved the supply of illicit substances in the Ellesmere Port area.

A university educated pensioner who held down a good job and kept out of trouble for more than 60 years is now behind bars. Graham Jones had never found himself in trouble with the law before he began operating a "lucrative business" in the trafficking of "10 out of 10" drugs.

When the police came knocking at his door, they discovered cocaine and cannabis with a potential value above £20,000 and found evidence of previous deals worth thousands more still. He now says that his "judgement was clouded" by his use of the latter substance in order to medicate his epilepsy.

Jones admitted possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply. Appearing in the dock wearing a white pinstriped shirt and glasses, he nodded as he was jailed for 32 months.

A man lied to his family and tried to get away with what he did driving home before police caught up with him. Paul Horner nearly killed a cyclist when he struck him with his car near to a Shell petrol station.

The victim remained in hospital for several weeks after the collision in a life-threatening condition He ultimately survived the crash, but continues to be affected by the injuries he sustained.

Horner meanwhile failed to stop at the scene and drove all the way home in his badly damage Skoda Octavia. He later admitted causing serious injury by careless driving and was sentenced to eight months in prison.

A police officer who escorted two of the little girls who were killed during the Southport stabbings to the morgue was hit in the head with a flying brick during rioting the following day. A matter of hours after performing these harrowing duties following the murders of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, Sergeant Phillip Sinclair bravely stood on the frontline as missiles rained down upon him and his colleagues when widespread disorder erupted in the seaside town.

Kevin Clark was amongst the thugs who revelled in the violent scenes, hurling more than 20 objects towards PCs after travelling to the scene from his home in Wigan. One of these struck the officer in the head, sparking cheers and a torrent of abuse towards the victim when he collapsed to the floor.

Sergeant Sinclair, who had not been wearing a protective helmet at the time and whose daughter witnessed the shocking assault being livestreamed on social media, will never return to frontline duty as a result of the serious injuries he sustained. He still walks with the use of crutches eight months later, but told a court that the sick sounds of glee emanating from the crowd "hurt him the most".

Clark admitted unlawful wounding and violent disorder. Appearing in the dock wearing a dark green fleece and sporting short dark hair and a beard, he was jailed for three-and-a-half years and handed an additional 18-month extended licence period.

He will be required to serve at least two thirds of the custodial term behind bars before becoming eligible for release by the Parole Board. Clark turned to his supporters in the public gallery and said "see you later" after learning his fate.

A man nicknamed "Beefy" went to the pub and smashed the bar up with a golf club before telling the manager "I'll f***ing bury you". Keith Rogers was later found hiding out in a nearby garden after being turfed out by staff and customers at the outset of a four-month crime spree, which was apparently sparked by him discovering his partner being unfaithful in a wardrobe.

The serial shoplifter would eventually go on to threaten to blow up a police station and hit an officer's mum with a shovel. He has now been banned from a Morrisons supermarket for several years, having brandished a knife towards a worker when confronted over his theft of cans of Au Vodka.

Rogers admitted two offences of affray, racially aggravated threatening behaviour, three charges of assaulting an emergency services worker, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, three charges of criminal damage, two public order offences and three counts of theft. He was seen with his head in his hands at times during the hearing before he was jailed for 27 months.

A teenager threw a shotgun into his next door neighbour's garden when a knifepoint robbery in Sefton Park brought the police to his door. Officers came knocking at Jamie Crawford's house after following a tracker on an electric bike which had been stolen during the incident the previous day.

The 19-year-old admitted possession of a prohibited weapon and handling stolen goods. Appearing in the dock wearing a grey Under Armour tracksuit, he showed no reaction as he was jailed for five years.

A "callous" burglar was caught after detectives found his DNA on a bottle of Babycham. David Keating broke into the retirement flat of an elderly woman in Formby and stole jewellery of sentimental value, bottles of perfume, a blood pressure machine, electronic devices and money while the she was not home.

The 49-year-old also helped himself to food and alcohol, including and a bottle of Babycham and some brandy. Following a forensic examination, his was found on the Babycham bottle - forcing him to plead guilty to burglary and being sentenced to two years and five months in prison.

A teenager's actions after he finished his shift in a pub early left his mum sobbing in court. Corneliu Magureanu became embroiled in violent scenes in Liverpool city centre days after six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar were stabbed to death during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class at the Hart Space in Southport.

This saw the then University of Chester student hurl abuse towards police officers and launch a rock in their direction outside John Lewis while clad in an England rugby shirt. Those few "seconds of madness" have now landed him in a prison cell.

Margureanu admitted violent disorder. Appearing in the dock wearing a black suit over a white shirt and turquoise tie, he was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders' institute.

His mum was then seen in tears as she left the public gallery, sobbing after he son had been led down to the cells: "No, no, no. I'm not going out. I'm not going out. Where is he?"

A man who was hiding a huge stash of money and cocaine in his house was caught after police stopped him for not wearing a seatbelt. A small wrap of white powder fell from Daniel Dunne's car when he was pulled over, with £600 in cash also found inside the vehicle.

Searches of his home then revealed a further £1,066,382 in cash and around a kilo of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply and possession of criminal property and was jailed for seven years.

A gang who hid £1million worth of drugs in citronella candles have been jailed for a combined total of nearly 20 years. Border Force officers seized a shipment of 182kg of cannabis resin, sent from Malaga and bound for a business premises in Bootle, at Tilbury Docks in Essex.

Ian Hannah pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import cannabis. Steven Garbutt, Raja Ali and Sharukh Ali were convicted of the same offence by a jury following a trial.

Ian Hannah was sentenced to four years and three months in prison, while Garbutt was locked up for six years. Raja Ali was sentenced to five years and six months and Sharukh Ali was imprisoned for four years.
