Inside Liam Payne's hotel room as photos show white powder and smashed TV

Photos taken of inside Liam Payne's Argentina hotel room show white powder, foil, empty champagne glasses and a smashed TV.

The One Direction star, who shot to fame on the X Factor UK, tragically died aged just 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel room on Wednesday evening (October 16) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Staff at the Casa Sur Hotel, where Payne had been staying, made a harrowing 911 call to emergency services where they expressed fears for his wellbeing moments before his death.

Photos purporting to show the inside of the suite that Payne checked into were published by Argentinian media after Liam's death.

News outlets, including La Nacion and Clarin, confirmed the photos which appear to show traces of a white powder and burnt aluminium foil as well as a smashed TV, were taken inside Liam's room.

Other pictures also show an empty plastic Dove soap packet, a burnt candle, an empty glass, pieces of aluminium foil and the burnt top of a drinks can along with the traces of a white powder. A half-drunk glass of what appeared to be champagne and another empty glass had been left next to the broken TV.

Alberto Crescenti, head of Buenos Aires emergency services, disclosed that despite the prompt response, medics could not save the star after the fatal fall on Wednesday. The Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Argentina "regarding reports of the death of a British man".

An autopsy has since been performed by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street, with Infobae getting access to the preliminary results. The preliminary result was consistent with a ten-metre fall he suffered from the balcony of his room, located on the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel.

The report stated a toxicological and anatomical-pathological study of his blood and urine were being undertaken to determine whether there were any traces of drugs.

The One Direction star had previously opened up about his addiction battles and mental health struggles. Speaking in 2021 on Steven Bartlett's Diary of an CEO podcast, Liam made a tragic remark about hitting rock bottom, with his revisited words shocking fans in the wake of his death.

Speaking to entrepreneur and Dragons' Den star Steven, father-of-one Liam said: "I don't know if I've even hit rock bottom yet. It feels like I can either pick my last moment as my rock bottom, or make a whole new low. That's my choice."

Also speaking about his journey to sobriety, Payne, who was 29 at the time, revealed: "There is a point when you hit rock bottom and you realise you have got to do something different as whatever you are doing right now isn't working for you."

And in 2023, the singer shared a video to his YouTube channel, titled 'I'm Back' announcing that he had been 100 days sober after being in a 'bad shape' following a stint in rehab.

He said: "I just needed to take a little bit of time out for myself because I kind of became somebody who I didn't really recognize anymore. And I'm sure you guys didn't either. I was in bad shape up until that point and I was really happy to kind of put a stopper to life and work."
