REDDING, Calif. -- A power line fell in the intersection of Churn Creek and Hartnell Avenue in Redding causing traffic to be deviated around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
PG&E, Redding Electric Utilities (REU), the Redding Fire Department (RFD), and the Redding Police Department (RPD) all reported to the scene.
Redding police closed the intersection and redirected traffic to avoid the power line in the road.
A Redding Electric Utilities technician arrived at about 11:30 a.m. and used his truck's boom-arm to reach the cable and cut it. He then rolled up the cable and cleared the roadway of the hazard.
A small fire was sparked in a bush where the cable fell but it was quickly extinguished.
The RFD Fire chief on scene said the cause of the downed power line is unknown. PG&E later assisted with the downed line and provided traffic control in the evening, saying the repairs should be complete by Saturday night.
