José Ramírez, Steven Kwan competing for All-Star Game starting spots as Phase 2 voting begins

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- José Ramírez and Steven Kwan are one big step away in their quests to start at the All-Star Game in Texas next month. Now it's up to the voters.

Ramírez and Kwan have advanced to Phase 2 of All-Star voting, which began Sunday at noon and remains open until noon on Wednesday.

Vote for 2024 All-Star Game starters here.

Ramírez is seeking his sixth All-Star appearance and third start at third base. He currently ranks second in the AL in RBI with 72 and is tied for third with 21 home runs. He faces Baltimore's Jordan Westburg in the final vote. Westburg is slugging .512 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI, but has started just 49 games at third base and 24 at second.

Kwan is trying to become the first Cleveland outfielder elected to start since Juan Gonzalez in 2001. He is batting .377 with a .988 OPS and has more three-hit games than any player in baseball.

New York's Aaron Judge, the top vote-getter in Phase 1, has earned an automatic spot in the AL outfield. That leaves Kwan, Yankees right fielder Juan Soto, Baltimore's Anthony Santander and Houston's Kyle Tucker to battle for the final two spots alongside Judge.

Santander is tied for third in the AL with 21 home runs while Tucker has not played since June 7 after suffering a shin contusion. With Soto garnering the second-most votes behind Judge in Phase 1 and Tucker a non-factor, it appears Kwan is in direct competition with Santander for the final starting spot.

Phase 2 voting will continue to take place exclusively online and via mobile devices. Fans may vote once per day during Phase 2, with the daily voting limit resetting each day at midnight. Visit MLB.com/vote to participate.
