5-Star Texas Transfer Whose Mom Rejected Deion Sanders Linked To Colorado Football Team

Former five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook is in the transfer portal after leaving the Texas football team earlier this season. Colorado has been a name linked to the pass catcher this offseason.

Cook's relationship with head coach Deion Sanders dates back to his initial recruitment as a high school star. Despite receiving attention from the Buffs, Cook's mom rejected Coach Prime's offer.

Grace Raynor of The Athletic spoke on Cook's recruitment in 2022. She says Sanders reached out to the wideout to gauge his interest in Texas before signing day. Cook's mom reportedly shut the coach down.

Cook then signed with the Longhorns, logging 16 catches across two seasons. Unhappy with his usage, he announced his intention to hit the portal midway through the 2024 campaign.

Could Colorado land its target the second time around? Whispers of his interest in the Buffaloes have circulated this offseason. Cook made the first move by replying to a post on X from Deion Sanders. "I ain't hard to find," that note read.

Flames were further fanned after Liberty QB Kaidon Salter committed to Colorado on Wednesday. Johntay Cook responded by saying, "Ok, ok," to the news, seemingly impressed with the Buffs' newest addition.

There are some that believe Salter's pledge could help out with Cook's recruitment. Others have their doubts in the Buffs' interest following that initial denial.

Colorado already offered once. Cook's camp spurned Deion Sanders for the Longhorns. It seems the receiver is extremely interested in the Buffs this time around. We'll soon see if the feeling is mutual.
