BALTIMORE, MD -- Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has announced the indictment of 50-year-old Racquel Davis of Baltimore on charges related to a significant insurance fraud case. Davis faces one count of theft scheme ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 and 18 counts of insurance fraud, all linked to allegedly fraudulent claims filed with AFLAC.
Between October 2017 and September 2020, Davis reportedly submitted 18 false disability claims under her short-term disability and accident policies. These claims included fraudulent medical documentation and forged employer statements, leading to her purportedly receiving around $63,898.33 from AFLAC.
The case, brought to light through a joint effort between the Office of the Attorney General and the Maryland Insurance Administration, is set to be heard in the Baltimore County Circuit Court. It's important to note that an indictment is not an indication of guilt, and Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Attorney General Brown expressed his gratitude towards the Criminal Division's Fraud and Corruption Unit, Assistant Attorney General Michael Palisano, auditor Suzzanne Jones, and Investigator William Wagner for their roles in the investigation.
