Saginaw man fatally shot in vehicle at East Side party store

SAGINAW, MI -- An early morning shooting on Saginaw's East Side has left a man dead, the 12th person killed by gun violence in the city this year.

About 1:11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, police responded to the Stop N Shop, 1227 Janes St., for a shooting. They found 29-year-old Darius J. Horrison inside a vehicle in the party store's parking lot, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Officers began rendering aid to the unresponsive Horrison. He was then taken via Mobile Medical Response to a local hospital, where he died of his wound.

Police have made no arrests and are actively seeking leads. They ask anyone with information contact Detective Natasha McNab at 989-759-1264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245. Callers can remain anonymous.

Horrison's homicide is the second in the city in five days, the first being that of 44-year-old Omar R. Morrow about 11:30 a.m. on June 28. Morrow was shot multiple times while inside the Family Dollar at 1908 S. Michigan Ave. on the city's West Side.

Three other men have been killed this year while at or near Saginaw party stores.

Tyrone L. "Orange" Cannady, 40, was found shot to death inside K&D Market, 2716 S. Jefferson Ave., about 1 a.m. on April 29. Johnell S. Whittington, 30, was found fatally wounded about 8 a.m. on June 15 near the T&M Market at the intersection of Genesee and Webber streets on the city's East Side.

Da'Quan L. Mims, 25, was shot outside West Side Party Store in the 100 block of North Hamilton Street around 1:45 a.m. on June 16.
