Longtime NASCAR Driver Announces Retirement At 61

A longtime NASCAR driver has announced his official retirement from racing at 61 years old.

Dave Blaney, the father of NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney, raced for the final time on Saturday evening. And he went out in style. Dave Blaney won the final Sprint Car race of his career, winning at Sharon Speedway. He fought off Danny Dietrich down the stretch of his final race.

Congratulations for Dave Blaney poured in on social media, including a heartfelt message from his son.

"Congratulations to Pops in his final go around. I wish I could've been there to see The Bullet park it for the last time.. Cheers dad!" he wrote.

Dave Blaney was emotional following the final race of his career, too.

"It's big. You know, this is a race Dale and I try to win every year. To beat that guy... in my last race. Saying, to beat Danny in my last race. I'm officially done right now."

That's quite a way to go out on top for Dave Blaney.

Congrats to the longtime NASCAR and Sprint Car driver on his final win and his upcoming retirement. Enjoy it, Dave.
