NHE Inc. in Greenville, South Carolina, is the real estate management company that oversees the operation of the Blue Ridge Terrace.
The $389,168 grant is for three years and will be used to hire a service coordinator to help the residents find services that will assist them with maintaining independent living, said Patty Sherman, senior vice president of the affordable property management and service coordination business units with NHE.
Service coordinators connect residents age 62 years or older and persons with disabilities with resources to help them age in place and live independently. The resources include financial management assistance, opportunities for social connections and health and well-being programs. Tenants have the option to choose services according to their preferences. Service coordinators also help property management understand the needs of residents, according to the news release from HUD.
"These funds help enhance the quality of life for these residents by bringing appropriate community-based services within reach, enabling residents to live independently with dignity," said Ethan Handelman, HUD deputy assistant secretary of multifamily housing programs.
