In recent years, there has been a Black indie-rock movement that has largely remained underground but has been one of the most rewarding scenes of the last few years. At the forefront is San Diego's Jean Dawson who, at his best, blends the lush melodicism of Brian Wilson and the sonic adventurism of Frank Ocean with the funk undertow of Prince. Check out such tracks as "The Boy and the Swan" or "Pirate Radio." He's coming to Houston on the heels of his fantastic album, "Glimmer of God," and he comes with a reputation as a persuasive live performer.
