CHESTERTON -- The Duneland School Corp. is considering over $14 million in proposed capital improvement projects.
The school board held a public hearing regarding the projects on Monday.
The proposed work includes carpet replacement at Chesterton High School, renovations of the high school's soccer stadium, and playground replacements at Bailly, Brummitt, Jackson and Liberty elementary schools.
According to Bridget Martinson, Duneland schools director of public relations, the projects were initially considered as part of the school improvement plan the board approved in 2021, but supply chain issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased costs due to inflation delayed them.
The proposed projects will be financed through bonds. The district said the bonds issued will not increase the school tax rate.

If approved, the work is expected to be completed by next summer or early fall.
A second public hearing is scheduled during the Dec. 2 school board meeting.
