Tye: Time to put Hunt on notice

Tye: Time to put Hunt on notice

For over five years I have politely written to Aspen City Council.

I have been reminding them that Mark Hunt removed all local tenants and promised to build new employee housing on this site (at corner Park/Midland avenues) ... And now, it still sits abandoned, and an extreme fire danger, an eyesore and out of character with any other building in town ... Except the Boomerang.

The great locally staffed fire dept (thank you), says they can do nothing. Who can? The building is still untouched. This is simply wrong and dangerous. Ward Hauenstein explained the city can do nothing in this situation.

It appears that unless Hunt is threatened by the city (demolition by neglect) he just does what he wants. This dangerous fire hazard situation needs to be rectified? He kicked out three local businesses and six employees at the old Dominoes building too ... It has been vacant three years.

I have little problem with developers; as that is the Aspen way, and has been since I moved here in 1975. But, I do have a problem with 40 locals being displaced and buildings abandoned.

Time to put Hunt on Notice on this dangerous, eyesore neighborhood fire issue.
